Pith Helmet or Topee

This is a pith helmet (also known as a topee or sun helmet). It is a lightweight cloth-covered helmet made from cork or pith. The cloth covering is khaki coloured and it is bound with a leather strap. It is typical of the kinds of hats worn by British colonial officers in Sierra Leone.
